Blue Oyster Cult Live at The Vine Waterloo, NY 2/22/20

Blue Oyster Cult is a rock n roll institution. Full of vitality and energy still, they haven't lost a thing.

The Vine at Del Lago is a small 1500 seater amphitheatre inside a chinsey like casino in the fingerlakes region of New York. Security there also are kinda power hungry douches. During the first 30 seconds of the second song when I was shooting photos, a guy tapped me and said "They were like when you're taking photos these guys behind ya can't see." They don't have a proper photo pit at all at the venue. I was about to say tell em to move I'm working but i looked and then looked like if they stood up they'd break a hip so, I sat back down in my killer seat.

No worries, Eric Blooms coolness is unquestioned. When they kicked off with Dr Music i found myself drawn to Bloom immediately in his all black an the shades, not too mention that sexy fuckin gibson sg around his neck. Buck Dharma, my god is such an underrated player. And his voice is incredible.

They had us in the crowd help sing in the beginning of Golden Age Of Leather as a drunken sing along. Everything was tight, but so loose at the same time. The crowd was slightly lame, only screaming for the big hits as i am calling out for Career of Evil and Flaming Telepaths. I turned some heads knowing more than most of the people who were lucky enough to know em back in the day. They did ME 262 to practically crickets. I was going apeshit. That's such a kickass song.

I felt transported especially during songs like The Vigil and Then Came The Last Days of May, the band jams the living fuck out of the songs. Cascading guitar solos. Buck and Richie Castellano are fucking incendiary. Richie, one of the younger guys who does both Lead guitar and keyboards is seriously amazing. The guy got a standing ovation for his shredding, space shattering, skullfucking solo in Last Days of May. The old guard, even though calling and chanting for Buck, the old guard gave the new guy a standing ovation,as did I, even saluting him. There's hope for rock and roll in 2020 still.

The show reaffirmed Blue Oyster Cults place in my heart and life. Not knowing what to expect and just being blown away. Eric Bloom to me is one of the coolest motherfuckers in rock and roll, period. Dig.

Atollo13 Scimmie Di Mare album review

Scimmie Di Mare is the latest full length release from Italian Surf band Atollo13, and it is fun from the moment it starts to the end. Reminiscent of The Eliminators and the Blue Stingrays and The Shadows, there's some groovy and gnarly tunes here that you can dig unless you're a square. Trappistone is the beginning intro, complete with the old vox keyboard and reverb drenched fender guitars in all their Cali sun glory. Such great musicianship here. Linda Linda the first song with vocals, they sing in Italian, but it sounds right. It's a wonderful song. It's crazy to hear perfect top notch surf music with Italian lyrics, but I must say it's better than alot of stuff around today. It sounds fresh out of a pier in the early 60s. Dead Witches-Ouija (2017) review

Dead Witches are an amazing, crushingly heavy, psychedelic, stoner doom band. With legend drummer Mark Greening(Ex Electric Wizard, With The Dead, Ramessess) along with vocalist Virginia Monti(Psychedelic Witchcraft), Carl Geary on bass, and Greg Elk on guitar, sadly Elk passed away in 2016. The album is absolutely superb, definitely one of the best records of the year. The production is amazing, the songs are great, and the fucking riffs are orgasms for the ears. The album starts off with the sound of rain, and a storm, and a haunting bass riff, followed with some organ and guitar feedback, setting a very dark mood. and moves into the song Dead, which starts off with a fantastic, fuzzy riff, and the drums kick in, and this song rides on the groove of this riff, building and building, as Virginia opens her beautiful, haunting vocals, its very powerful. Uncle Acid And The Deadbeats-The Night Creeper review

The Night Creeper, by Uncle Acid and The Deadbeats, is their third record, and it shows them progressing. And its fucking fantastic. It has the riffs and vibes of Black Sabbath, with haunting vocals, and a sense of melody that most Stoner Doom Metal bands lack. There are hooks, and dark vibes. It's incindiary. And if anybody doubts their legitimacy, they opened for Black Sabbath on the UK leg of their last tour, which in Doom, that's a hell of a endorsement. They don't copy Sabbath, they put their own dark, melodic spin on the genre. This record is absolutely phenomenal, dark, abysmal, eerie, and filled with incredible freakin riffs. With lyrics that are reminscent of old school b movie horror films, they create an atmosphere that literally makes you feel like you are walking down a dark alley in the cold English rain.
