Mudhoney Morning In America EP review

Mudhoney are back with Morning In America, the new so by the grunge rock legends. One of the smaller bands that didn't get huge like Soundgarden or Nirvana, perhaps that's why they are still around. With Stooges influenced garage punk with that muddy guitar tone, this is classic Mudhoney.

Vortex of Lies starts us off with a slow survey riff full of fuzz and feedback. Has a waltz like vibe with brilliant lyrics. Has a slight stoner rock vibe. Totally rad. Very raw production. Creeps Are Everywhere is upbeat and fun. Very groovy.

Ensam I Naft is reminiscent of Into The Drink sounding, the only cover on the ep. Some sweet synth wooshes. Side 1 ends with the title track Morning In America. Very good. Slower but vibey. The opening line 'America hates itself.' Wow, fuckin profound. There are a lot of ills in our society, and they talk about it. Such a strong song, reminiscent of If I Think.

Side 2 begins with Let's Kill Yourself Live Again, a hell of a title. And it really sounds like it czme out in the mid to late 60s. Great hook and riffs. A brilliant song about that politician that shot himself in the head live on t.v. back in the day. Snake Oil Charmer has a story telling vibe with the typical Mudhoney twist. Great riff and lyrics. This ep is a sign of the times. Filled with wah wah and fuzz.it ends with One Bad Actor, the single released. A slow stonery groovetastic fuzz fest.

This is a phenomenal release by Mudhoney. Even after all these years, they're still the same band. A contender for album of the year.

Quiet Riot Hollywood Cowboys review

Quiet Riot's latest album Hollywood Cowboys is a fantastic old school melodic hard rock album, something the band has always done excruciatingly well no matter who was in the band. The riffs, the hooks, it'll drive ya mad. The album kicks off with the awesome riff of Don't' Call It Love, a pure sleazy rocker. James vocals are great, I never understood the hate. Killer. Next up is In The Blood, with an awesome groove. Very vibey. Very AOR. Not a bad thing. It picks up for an epic, powerful chorus. Very vampyric. The band itself is on fire. Just energetic and fun to the bone. As it should be. Heartbreak City is pure 80s hard rock. Has a groove similar to Deep Purple. A hook out of this world. Definitely sleazy. The Devil That You Know is a fast paced rocker, galloping like a wild steed while your getting shot at. And yet still has amazing hooks. Sunn0)) Life Metal Review

Sunn0)) is either band you love or hate, and their latest album Life Metal is pure droney goodness. The empowering yet dark ambient vibes suck your soul and stir it around through these four long epic pieces of pure sonic art. Reclrded and mixed by Steve Albini, their eighth record is pure drone. And an album title that is a contrast to 'doom and gloom', one of my favourite albums this year. This album has a maternal twin album coming called Pyroclasts soon. Between Sleipnir's Breaths starts off the journey. Haunting vocals by Hildur Guðnadóttir, fantastic. Life Metal comparatively more upbeat tone with brightness and a symphonic vibe compared to the rest of Sunn O)))'s discography that stems in part from Anderson and O'Malley being content with their personal and creative lives. Its still fucking heavy mind you, just less hopelessness. Troubled Air comes next on this journey of ambience. You can feel the morning sun peeking through dark ancient clouds. Won...

Vanha Melancholia Review

Melancholia is the second album by Vanha from Sweden. As the title suggests, it's a beautiful Death Doom album. With atmosphere of longing and desperation and dark tranquility permeate like a moon over a mausoleum. The Road starts us off with dark soft ambient guitars slowly rising from a rotting tomb. Spoken word insues as the music builds ever so slowly and forlorn. Then it kicks in. So slow and despair ridden, medieval, and beautiful. Amazing guitar work, solos are amazing. Almost reminscent of Iron Maiden in sense of the melodies guitar wise here. Absolutely astonishing. Storm Of Grief has some beautiful riffs here. Haunting and creating an atmosphere that's thick and intense and beautiful all at the same time. Using growls on this one, its so fucking amazing. So heavy it could crush a church. And yet its got the funereal vibes. The musicianship is top notch and cant be questioned. Starless Skies starts off with beautiful strings and synth overtop a sullen soft gu...
