Sunn0)) Life Metal Review

Sunn0)) is either band you love or hate, and their latest album Life Metal is pure droney goodness. The empowering yet dark ambient vibes suck your soul and stir it around through these four long epic pieces of pure sonic art. Reclrded and mixed by Steve Albini, their eighth record is pure drone. And an album title that is a contrast to 'doom and gloom', one of my favourite albums this year. This album has a maternal twin album coming called Pyroclasts soon.
Between Sleipnir's Breaths starts off the journey. Haunting vocals by Hildur Guðnadóttir, fantastic. Life Metal comparatively more upbeat tone with brightness and a symphonic vibe compared to the rest of Sunn O)))'s discography that stems in part from Anderson and O'Malley being content with their personal and creative lives. Its still fucking heavy mind you, just less hopelessness.
Troubled Air comes next on this journey of ambience. You can feel the morning sun peeking through dark ancient clouds. Wonderful sonic pieces of art.
Aurora ia next,another soundscape masterpiece. The way each track flows into each other creates an endless sonic river of life giving music. The sonic sound of rebirth. The last track Novae clocking in at 25 minutes long is one of the most impressive pieces of music ever created with such minimalism. The gaps in between the riffs make such a vibe. A fantastic record focusing on soundscapes and vibes over a typical 'song.' Almost devoid of description. It's Sunn0)).

Atollo13 Scimmie Di Mare album review

Scimmie Di Mare is the latest full length release from Italian Surf band Atollo13, and it is fun from the moment it starts to the end. Reminiscent of The Eliminators and the Blue Stingrays and The Shadows, there's some groovy and gnarly tunes here that you can dig unless you're a square. Trappistone is the beginning intro, complete with the old vox keyboard and reverb drenched fender guitars in all their Cali sun glory. Such great musicianship here. Linda Linda the first song with vocals, they sing in Italian, but it sounds right. It's a wonderful song. It's crazy to hear perfect top notch surf music with Italian lyrics, but I must say it's better than alot of stuff around today. It sounds fresh out of a pier in the early 60s. Sea Monkeys starts off with discord and a psychedelic moment before grooving into a beautiful dance tune. Any record that encourages fun, or dancing is a good one. Sunn0))) Pyroclasts review

The twin album to Life Metal is here. Sunn0)))'s latest Pyroclasts was a living, breathing record alongside the recent Life Metal release, coexisting on the same master tapes as well. Recorded once again by the great Steve Albini, this record is easily as sublime,  if not more so than its twin album Life Metal.  We start off the journey in soundscape with Frost, some eerie hymn like feedback. Then come some crushing guitars out of the sky. This sounds darker than their previous record, but the auras are sinister and haunting.  Kingdoms starts off in the same way but no feedback. The vibes on this record are absolutely fucking intense. Dark,yet invigorating. Like ablack sun shining its dark rays on you. Sucks you in like a black hole. God damn. Ampliphædies continues in a similar vibe, but this riff is fuckin heavy. Take a trip to the darkest pits of your mind, feel the gloom a bit.  Ascension starts off with surprisingly upbeat sounding feedback. Creating ...

Dead Witches-Ouija (2017) review

Dead Witches are an amazing, crushingly heavy, psychedelic, stoner doom band. With legend drummer Mark Greening(Ex Electric Wizard, With The Dead,  Ramessess) along with vocalist Virginia Monti(Psychedelic Witchcraft), Carl Geary on bass, and Greg Elk on guitar, sadly Elk passed away in 2016. The album is absolutely superb, definitely one of the best records of the year. The production is amazing, the songs are great, and the fucking riffs are orgasms for the ears. The album starts off with the sound of rain, and a storm, and a haunting bass riff, followed with some organ and guitar feedback, setting a very dark mood. and moves into the song Dead, which starts off with a fantastic, fuzzy riff, and the drums kick in, and this song rides on the groove of this riff, building and building, as Virginia opens her beautiful, haunting vocals, its very powerful.
