Pitch Black Sunrise Tales Of A Broken Jester EP review

Pitch Black Sunrise is a Stoner rock band from Hudson Valley, NY. A new band on the horizon, a tight 3 piece with incredible songs, and beautiful trippy vibes. Their debut EP Tales Of A Broken Jester is phenomenal. In a genre littered with great stuff, and really bad, these dudes are in the former category rather than the latter.
Demons Now My Angels Be starts off with a killer grungey Sabbath riff. This recording is raw, but not too much. It sounds like three dudes just recorded themselves jamming. Great vocals, great riffs, and a dirty groove. There are hints of Black Sabbath, Sound garden, and Led Zeppelin littered through it. Nothing not to love here.

The Rites Of Spring starts with another killer bluesy riff, and gallups with a groove like old school zeppelin, with a grunge like verse from the Melvins or Mudhoney, and goes anthemic on the bridge, and the chorus is quite sublime if I may so. It's heavy and rocks, but it also uplifts with some sonic  euphoria. Incredible.
How Far We Fall starts off with an eerie reverb soaked arpeggio, very soft, reminiscent of Alice In Chains, and builds into my favourite riff on the ep, so psychedelic, and Sabbath heavy, before it comes back down to that eerie soft riff. A very Soundgarden like verse, builds and explodes into an equally strong chorus. It's like these dudes have the right pieces to put right where they belong to create really good songs. A Heavy psychedelic kaleidoscope. That's the only way I can describe their sound.

A Tale Of A Broken Jester has a straight line waltzy Sabbath riff that's taken a tab of acid with their doobie. So heavy, so powerful, and intricate. Once again, that groove they got. It's almost danceable. It's not poppy, it just has that groove, man.

All I can say is if people think Greta Van Fleet are so amazing, Pitch Black Sunrise is about 20 times the band GVF try to be. This record is absolutely phenomenal. These dudes are seriously talented, and they will blow your mind. Cascading psychedelia drenched in sabbath and zeppelin  during a satanic ritual and dragged through some grunge.

Sadartha Growth EP Review

Sadartha's third release is the ep Growth. With slightly better production than the last two albums, the band drops most of the hardcore punk influences going for a pure grunge sound. Opening track Emptifull has a sweet groove in the verse and explodes on the chorus. The band seems to have found their footing hear. Jangly muddy guitars, pulsating bass, and frantic but precise drums. Is it 1992 again? Aconitum starts with a watery sounding guitar riff. So slow and vibey. This is like Nirvana's Nevermind meets Alice In Chain's Jar Of Flies. So dark, so sublime.  Eclipsing Binaries sounds upbeat.a lazy day with a joint in the sun with nothing to do is what comes to mind. Really good song. Nice melodies. These dudes are definitely on the rise and just get better. Sacred Scorcher has such an awesome groove. Hearing a little Mudhoney influence here. Then the guitars distort and it's a train barrelling down the tracks at 110 mph on fire. It's fucking great.  ...

Dead Witches-Ouija (2017) review

Dead Witches are an amazing, crushingly heavy, psychedelic, stoner doom band. With legend drummer Mark Greening(Ex Electric Wizard, With The Dead,  Ramessess) along with vocalist Virginia Monti(Psychedelic Witchcraft), Carl Geary on bass, and Greg Elk on guitar, sadly Elk passed away in 2016. The album is absolutely superb, definitely one of the best records of the year. The production is amazing, the songs are great, and the fucking riffs are orgasms for the ears. The album starts off with the sound of rain, and a storm, and a haunting bass riff, followed with some organ and guitar feedback, setting a very dark mood. and moves into the song Dead, which starts off with a fantastic, fuzzy riff, and the drums kick in, and this song rides on the groove of this riff, building and building, as Virginia opens her beautiful, haunting vocals, its very powerful. It sucks you into the dark vortex to hell, dragging you numbed from dopesmoke. How metal is that? It's nice to hear Mark bashin...

Shadow Show Silhouettes Review

Shadow Show is a Psychedelic power trio from Ann Arbor, Michigan. Fantastic, cosmic music with spacey vocal harmonies. Their debut album Silhouettes is a fine example of very good modern psych, with ten solid tracks. So tight it sounds and feels loose. The album starts off with the single and video Charades, somewhere between a rockin Byrd’s meets mid 60’s Beatles vibe with a bit of Syd Barrett Pink Floyd and that slight punk sneer. Very catchy, very trippy, very groovy. Contessa has a 60s meets 90s grunge kinda vibe to it, and has backing vocals akin to the Monkees, nice touch. These girls don’t sound like anyone else around, and best of all, the guitar is so fuzzy! Green Stone is one of the stronger songs on the album, going into some Rolling Stones and Yardbirds type vibes, total mid 60s psychedelia. The Alchemist is like Uncle Acid without the distortion and sped up a bit. A layer of acoustic guitar and just an incredible hazy vibe like the inside of an enchanted fores...
