Dee Calhoun-Go To The Devil album review

Go To the Devil is the latest by Dee Calhoun perhaps better known as a member of Doom band Iron Man, is, a musician out of Frederick, Maryland. He went with his trusty sidekick bassist Lou and did a tour of Europe, and has played Doom festival, and has a cult following, and listening to this album, it's amazing. It's all acoustic, with Dee's powerful, haunting, raw, soulful vocals and lyrics.

Common Enemy has a message of let's band together and put our differences aside and take care of our world. And Bedevil me has a very haunting western vibe in a way. More folky than a country vibe, with his soulful
mourning vocals. If it doesn't chill your spine, you have no soul. I can get the vibes of Robert Johnson, Johnny Cash, Black Sabbath, and even Bob Dylan all throughout the record. When he hits the high range, he reminds me of a more masculine Axl Rose. It's not a whine, it's a grand God like demand. Its so sublime, and dark.
Born(One Horse Town) is a tale of an outsider and rebel growing up in a repressive town, which almost everyone can relate to. It's a powerful, folky tune. It's pure Americana music mixed with classic metal. It's a unique combination that really works.

The Final Stand of The Fallen sounds like a mournful folky Dio inspired song. It's beautiful and very vibey. Slightly medieval, too. Blues picking on it make it all the better. Even has a haunted sounding flute. Go To The Devil starts with a message from the devil, and starts into a haunting upbeat folky sounding structure. Me Myself and I has a very groovy blues riff. With tambourine and other acoustic percussion used. Great groove here. Anthemic as well. There's no bad songs here.
I can't get over how simple and powerful this record is. It has the same power as the old Robert Johnson songs had in the 30s but in the modern Era. When it's stripped and raw and you can feel what he's feeling, it's good music. The Lotus Field Is Barren is another dark doom folk number, with a great riff, and great lyrics. Each song paints a picture in your head. Alot of atmosphere and depth.
Jesus, The Devil, The Deed is another western folk tale, so many good stories that come from a real place. Such amazing blending of styles in such a simple, almost archaic way. The Ballad of The Dixon Bridge starts with some rain, and a creepy child chant of rain rain to away before going into a grunge/blues guitar line, with powerful, anguished vocals screaming for salvation. Your Face begins with wind blowing, and a soft, eerie, dark, medieval sounding arpeggio guitar line. As the wind fades, a beautiful ballad about someones face who haunts your dreams. Alot of passion here, real passion, not calculated for the sake of writing a song, this song was written from real pain, and it hits you like a brick to the head in the subtlest way. Dry Heaves & Needles is obviously about drug addiction, not being addicted, but the growing problem in our country and many others. All in all this record is glimpse into a soul that's been jaded, and kicked around like a beer can on the highway. An absolutely intense, sublime record that will surprise you. I have nothing bad to say about this record. Period.

Atollo13 Scimmie Di Mare album review

Scimmie Di Mare is the latest full length release from Italian Surf band Atollo13, and it is fun from the moment it starts to the end. Reminiscent of The Eliminators and the Blue Stingrays and The Shadows, there's some groovy and gnarly tunes here that you can dig unless you're a square. Trappistone is the beginning intro, complete with the old vox keyboard and reverb drenched fender guitars in all their Cali sun glory. Such great musicianship here. Linda Linda the first song with vocals, they sing in Italian, but it sounds right. It's a wonderful song. It's crazy to hear perfect top notch surf music with Italian lyrics, but I must say it's better than alot of stuff around today. It sounds fresh out of a pier in the early 60s. Sea Monkeys starts off with discord and a psychedelic moment before grooving into a beautiful dance tune. Any record that encourages fun, or dancing is a good one. These guys completely have it nailed down and tight. I did not w...

Dead Witches-Ouija (2017) review

Dead Witches are an amazing, crushingly heavy, psychedelic, stoner doom band. With legend drummer Mark Greening(Ex Electric Wizard, With The Dead,  Ramessess) along with vocalist Virginia Monti(Psychedelic Witchcraft), Carl Geary on bass, and Greg Elk on guitar, sadly Elk passed away in 2016. The album is absolutely superb, definitely one of the best records of the year. The production is amazing, the songs are great, and the fucking riffs are orgasms for the ears. The album starts off with the sound of rain, and a storm, and a haunting bass riff, followed with some organ and guitar feedback, setting a very dark mood. and moves into the song Dead, which starts off with a fantastic, fuzzy riff, and the drums kick in, and this song rides on the groove of this riff, building and building, as Virginia opens her beautiful, haunting vocals, its very powerful. It sucks you into the dark vortex to hell, dragging you numbed from dopesmoke. How metal is that? It's nice to hear Mark bashin...

Uncle Acid And The Deadbeats-The Night Creeper review

The Night Creeper, by Uncle Acid and The Deadbeats, is their third record, and it shows them progressing. And its fucking  fantastic. It has the riffs and vibes of Black Sabbath, with haunting vocals, and a sense of melody that most  Stoner Doom Metal bands lack. There are hooks, and dark vibes. It's incindiary. And if anybody doubts their legitimacy, they opened  for Black Sabbath on the UK leg of their last tour, which in Doom, that's a hell of a endorsement. They don't copy Sabbath,  they put their own dark, melodic spin on the genre. This record is absolutely phenomenal, dark, abysmal, eerie, and filled with incredible freakin riffs. With lyrics that are reminscent of old school b movie horror films, they create an atmosphere that literally makes you feel like you  are walking down a dark alley in the cold English rain. With songs like Waiting For Blood, Pusher Man, and the title track,   slow, sludgeing Sabbath-esgue riffs, Iron Maiden like gu...
