Devil-Time To Repent Review

Time to Repent, the debut album of norwegian doomsters Devil. in 2011 this record was released, a quasi concept album. The band took notes
from Black Sabbath, Candlemass, Witchfinder General, and Saint Vitus. Focusing on curses, and an occult theme, with witches and damnation steady, this album
is pretty classic and impressive. Very raw production, not a bad thing, its pure. They have the bluesy realm of early Sabbath on breaking the curse,
an upbeat, bluesy waltz song called Break The Curse, going on a about "true love's kiss won't break the curse I know", makes for a great introduction.
The next track Blood is boiling begins with an awesome riff, and lyrics about being haunted at night by a witch he saw
burn at the stake, that he loved. So catchy though. The title track of the album, has a great fucking riff, a great hook, and fantastic lyrics.
The thing about these guys is, as simple as the songs are, you kind of feel like you're in medieval times if you allow your mind
to drift with the music. They build that kind of atmosphere and vibe, screaming WITCHES ON FIRE! It's brilliant, really.
Crazy Woman is a more upbeat song, with a chorus of "She will never let you down, she can wrap her legs around a snake," which is a fucking
fantastic line. These guys are raw, and have the right grooves. Open Casket starts with a riff similar to that Symptom Of The Universe by Black Sabbath,
it is quite a great headbanger. Catching a hint of Venom here. Death Of A Sorver is kind of similar to Candlemass, with softer medieval parts
but played a bit more folky. It's a great song, one of my favourites on the record. At The Blacksmiths almost sounds like an outtake from
Black Sabbath's 1970 debut album. Its a heavy bluesy doomy smoke filled riff. Howling (At The World) is another example of a great riff and a groove.
This production is so raw it's lovely, and damning. When this album came out, they opened for Electric Wizard, and you can see the fitting of the bill.

Atollo13 Scimmie Di Mare album review

Scimmie Di Mare is the latest full length release from Italian Surf band Atollo13, and it is fun from the moment it starts to the end. Reminiscent of The Eliminators and the Blue Stingrays and The Shadows, there's some groovy and gnarly tunes here that you can dig unless you're a square. Trappistone is the beginning intro, complete with the old vox keyboard and reverb drenched fender guitars in all their Cali sun glory. Such great musicianship here. Linda Linda the first song with vocals, they sing in Italian, but it sounds right. It's a wonderful song. It's crazy to hear perfect top notch surf music with Italian lyrics, but I must say it's better than alot of stuff around today. It sounds fresh out of a pier in the early 60s. Sea Monkeys starts off with discord and a psychedelic moment before grooving into a beautiful dance tune. Any record that encourages fun, or dancing is a good one. These guys completely have it nailed down and tight. I did not w...

Dead Witches-Ouija (2017) review

Dead Witches are an amazing, crushingly heavy, psychedelic, stoner doom band. With legend drummer Mark Greening(Ex Electric Wizard, With The Dead,  Ramessess) along with vocalist Virginia Monti(Psychedelic Witchcraft), Carl Geary on bass, and Greg Elk on guitar, sadly Elk passed away in 2016. The album is absolutely superb, definitely one of the best records of the year. The production is amazing, the songs are great, and the fucking riffs are orgasms for the ears. The album starts off with the sound of rain, and a storm, and a haunting bass riff, followed with some organ and guitar feedback, setting a very dark mood. and moves into the song Dead, which starts off with a fantastic, fuzzy riff, and the drums kick in, and this song rides on the groove of this riff, building and building, as Virginia opens her beautiful, haunting vocals, its very powerful. It sucks you into the dark vortex to hell, dragging you numbed from dopesmoke. How metal is that? It's nice to hear Mark bashin...

Uncle Acid And The Deadbeats-The Night Creeper review

The Night Creeper, by Uncle Acid and The Deadbeats, is their third record, and it shows them progressing. And its fucking  fantastic. It has the riffs and vibes of Black Sabbath, with haunting vocals, and a sense of melody that most  Stoner Doom Metal bands lack. There are hooks, and dark vibes. It's incindiary. And if anybody doubts their legitimacy, they opened  for Black Sabbath on the UK leg of their last tour, which in Doom, that's a hell of a endorsement. They don't copy Sabbath,  they put their own dark, melodic spin on the genre. This record is absolutely phenomenal, dark, abysmal, eerie, and filled with incredible freakin riffs. With lyrics that are reminscent of old school b movie horror films, they create an atmosphere that literally makes you feel like you  are walking down a dark alley in the cold English rain. With songs like Waiting For Blood, Pusher Man, and the title track,   slow, sludgeing Sabbath-esgue riffs, Iron Maiden like gu...
