Damn Dice-Wild N' Ready EP review 2013

I’ve been a fan of Damn Dice for about three years now, and I must say their debut EP Wild ‘N’ Ready is a raucous ass-kicking blend of ball busting rock ‘n’ roll with great vocals and musical hooks, and also killer melodies.

The six song EP gets straight to the point with “Bang Your Head”, a hard rocker with a bridge that holds back the mayhem of the chorus. This song will send you into a mesmerizing fury of headbanging, no matter where you are, and the solo executed by lead axeman Wallis is incredible. “Caught In The Ride” is top notch as well — with very inspiring words, Alex‘s voice is soaring and the sing along melodies are great. “Take The Fight” is anthemic and also inspiring, with great vocals, an ass-kicking guitar riff, frantic drums, and backing vocals and harmonies that are once again a perfect blend. Heavy and rocking with a sense of melody, the song is about standing up for yourself and not taking people’s shit.

“Down” has varied a little bit over the last few years, but is now perfected. One of my favorite tracks, it is another anthemic rocker with a perfect guitar solo. “Heart On The Run” is probably my favorite song on the album — the harmonies, guitar work, and lyrics describe most of the girls I’ve dated, so it has that personal connection to it. The final track “Wild Into The Night” is a great party song, and coming from these guys, I believe every word as truth — it is very decadent with a little hint of darkness to it.

The one thing I have to say is that Damn Dice do not sound like anyone out there — they have their own sound and style. They’ve been part of the London sleaze scene and definitely show no signs of stopping. Wild ‘N’ Ready is an incredible EP, and anyone who says ’80s influenced hard rock music is dead must hear Damn Dice. This EP cannot be played unless it’s played loud!

Quiet Riot Hollywood Cowboys review

Quiet Riot's latest album Hollywood Cowboys is a fantastic old school melodic hard rock album, something the band has always done excruciatingly well no matter who was in the band. The riffs, the hooks, it'll drive ya mad. The album kicks off with the awesome riff of Don't' Call It Love, a pure sleazy rocker. James vocals are great, I never understood the hate. Killer. Next up is In The Blood, with an awesome groove. Very vibey. Very AOR. Not a bad thing. It picks up for an epic, powerful chorus. Very vampyric. The band itself is on fire. Just energetic and fun to the bone. As it should be. Heartbreak City is pure 80s hard rock. Has a groove similar to Deep Purple. A hook out of this world. Definitely sleazy. The Devil That You Know is a fast paced rocker, galloping like a wild steed while your getting shot at. And yet still has amazing hooks. Sunn0)) Life Metal Review

Sunn0)) is either band you love or hate, and their latest album Life Metal is pure droney goodness. The empowering yet dark ambient vibes suck your soul and stir it around through these four long epic pieces of pure sonic art. Reclrded and mixed by Steve Albini, their eighth record is pure drone. And an album title that is a contrast to 'doom and gloom', one of my favourite albums this year. This album has a maternal twin album coming called Pyroclasts soon. Between Sleipnir's Breaths starts off the journey. Haunting vocals by Hildur Guðnadóttir, fantastic. Life Metal comparatively more upbeat tone with brightness and a symphonic vibe compared to the rest of Sunn O)))'s discography that stems in part from Anderson and O'Malley being content with their personal and creative lives. Vanha Melancholia Review

Melancholia is the second album by Vanha from Sweden. As the title suggests, it's a beautiful Death Doom album. With atmosphere of longing and desperation and dark tranquility permeate like a moon over a mausoleum. The Road starts us off with dark soft ambient guitars slowly rising from a rotting tomb. Spoken word insues as the music builds ever so slowly and forlorn. Then it kicks in. So slow and despair ridden, medieval, and beautiful. Amazing guitar work, solos are amazing. Almost reminscent of Iron Maiden in sense of the melodies guitar wise here. Absolutely astonishing. Storm Of Grief has some beautiful riffs here. Haunting and creating an atmosphere that's thick and intense and beautiful all at the same time. Using growls on this one, its so fucking amazing. So heavy it could crush a church.
