Vanha Melancholia Review

Melancholia is the second album by Vanha from Sweden. As the title suggests, it's a beautiful Death Doom album. With atmosphere of longing and desperation and dark tranquility permeate like a moon over a mausoleum.
The Road starts us off with dark soft ambient guitars slowly rising from a rotting tomb. Spoken word insues as the music builds ever so slowly and forlorn. Then it kicks in. So slow and despair ridden, medieval, and beautiful. Amazing guitar work, solos are amazing. Almost reminscent of Iron Maiden in sense of the melodies guitar wise here. Absolutely astonishing.
Storm Of Grief has some beautiful riffs here. Haunting and creating an atmosphere that's thick and intense and beautiful all at the same time. Using growls on this one, its so fucking amazing. So heavy it could crush a church. And yet its got the funereal vibes. The musicianship is top notch and cant be questioned.
Starless Skies starts off with beautiful strings and synth overtop a sullen soft guitar riff. It reeks of sorrow. It builds with the same notes the strings were playing with the guitars. It's fucking gorgeous. So dark and enchanting.



Your Heart In My Hands starts off with a ravishing piano playing. Then it slows down to a soft melancholic notes as the bass and drums come in, with haunting clean vocals. The guitars kick in and it's sublime. The intertwining melodies. So fucking good. The growls come in and you can feel the agonizing despair.
Fade Away starts off with dirgy wah infused guitar work that makes it super eerie. The rest of the band comes in like a funeral dirge. Very epic and forlorn.
The Sorrowful ends the album in amazing form. A soft ambient atmosphere oozing with despair. It's so beautiful like being seduced by a sexy vampire. It's so beautiful with the crushing heaviness. This is pure art.
This album is a very moving piece of work and its not for the faint of heart. The atmosphere is crushing.

Sadartha Growth EP Review

Sadartha's third release is the ep Growth. With slightly better production than the last two albums, the band drops most of the hardcore punk influences going for a pure grunge sound. Opening track Emptifull has a sweet groove in the verse and explodes on the chorus. The band seems to have found their footing hear. Jangly muddy guitars, pulsating bass, and frantic but precise drums. Is it 1992 again? Aconitum starts with a watery sounding guitar riff. So slow and vibey. This is like Nirvana's Nevermind meets Alice In Chain's Jar Of Flies. So dark, so sublime.  Eclipsing Binaries sounds upbeat.a lazy day with a joint in the sun with nothing to do is what comes to mind. Really good song. Nice melodies. These dudes are definitely on the rise and just get better. Sacred Scorcher has such an awesome groove. Hearing a little Mudhoney influence here. Then the guitars distort and it's a train barrelling down the tracks at 110 mph on fire. It's fucking great.  ...

Shadow Show Silhouettes Review

Shadow Show is a Psychedelic power trio from Ann Arbor, Michigan. Fantastic, cosmic music with spacey vocal harmonies. Their debut album Silhouettes is a fine example of very good modern psych, with ten solid tracks. So tight it sounds and feels loose. The album starts off with the single and video Charades, somewhere between a rockin Byrd’s meets mid 60’s Beatles vibe with a bit of Syd Barrett Pink Floyd and that slight punk sneer. Very catchy, very trippy, very groovy. Contessa has a 60s meets 90s grunge kinda vibe to it, and has backing vocals akin to the Monkees, nice touch. These girls don’t sound like anyone else around, and best of all, the guitar is so fuzzy! Green Stone is one of the stronger songs on the album, going into some Rolling Stones and Yardbirds type vibes, total mid 60s psychedelia. Sunn0)) Life Metal Review

Sunn0)) is either band you love or hate, and their latest album Life Metal is pure droney goodness. The empowering yet dark ambient vibes suck your soul and stir it around through these four long epic pieces of pure sonic art. Reclrded and mixed by Steve Albini, their eighth record is pure drone. And an album title that is a contrast to 'doom and gloom', one of my favourite albums this year. This album has a maternal twin album coming called Pyroclasts soon. Between Sleipnir's Breaths starts off the journey. Haunting vocals by Hildur Guðnadóttir, fantastic. Life Metal comparatively more upbeat tone with brightness and a symphonic vibe compared to the rest of Sunn O)))'s discography that stems in part from Anderson and O'Malley being content with their personal and creative lives. Its still fucking heavy mind you, just less hopelessness. Troubled Air comes next on this journey of ambience. You can feel the morning sun peeking through dark ancient clouds. Won...
